Just across the Plaza Simon Bolivar, the majestic Iglesia San Francisco de Asís stands as a testament to history and resilience. The original temple and convent of Iglesia San Francisco de Asís faced the ravages of fire in both 1737 and 1756. However, the indomitable spirit of this place led to its restoration and later, though briefly, abandonment.

In 1918, the church underwent a significant remodel that left an indelible mark on both its interior and exterior, notably transforming its bell tower. The church's ornate exterior warmly welcomes visitors into a relatively understated interior. With its white tiled walls and columns adorned by a subtly colored pulpit, it exudes a sense of modernity. However, it's when the night falls and the church is bathed in radiant light that its true beauty comes to life. Strolling through the streets of Casco at night, one can't help but be entranced by the captivating sight of its steeple aglow above the city.

Named after St. Francis of Assisi, known for his love of animals, a few times a year, this church opens it's doors to pets of any kind and the priest performs a very special service and blesses all the pets. Just recently I had the pleasure of experiencing the blessing first hand with my dog Jazzy. There were giant bunnies, cats, birds and dogs sitting in the pews.

This striking image is available in a single size, measuring 20"x26", capturing the essence of this enchanting place.
