On Avenida A, a piece of prime real estate is under the steadfast ownership of a remarkable woman – the guardian of Augustina, Maria Suengas. The building's name name Villa Augustina, is elegantly painted in cursive across a captivating blue door, just beyond La Campania and conveniently opposite Pedro Mandinga, my favorite rum bar.

Rumor has it that this resilient woman clings to her property with unwavering determination. It's said that numerous potential buyers have approached, offering substantial sums, but she remains resolute in her refusal to sell. Her integrity is unshakable; she cannot be swayed by mere riches.

When the gates to Villa Augustina are open, they offer access to a charming courtyard. You are warmly welcomed into a vibrant, colorful world. For a nominal fee of $1, you can savor a variety of drinks. As you venture inside, you'll be greeted by a kaleidoscope of bright hues adorning the surroundings. Barrels, murals, and storage units add to the distinctive atmosphere. This unique space also hosts events, preserving an authentic Panamanian essence; it is a space where all cultures and sub-cultures converge in the Old Town of Panama. Jam sesssions, DJ's converge into a nightclub.

It's truly inspiring to witness the indomitable spirit of this woman. She operates in alignment with her own conscience, choosing when to open her doors and embracing a life lived on her own terms. Here's to Villa Augustina – a true testament to unwavering independence.
